To follow the evolution of Dorian from hour to hour, go here.
An uncertain trajectory

An anticyclone will play a key role in Dorian's trajectory. Indeed, by positioning itself off Virginia, it will force the hurricane to take a west-northwest course. Thus, he should touch the Bahamas, then Florida. However, much uncertainty persists since some models predict that Dorian will land south of Florida, while others favor the south of the state.

The moment when Dorian touches earth is however more certain. Sunday is the Bahamas should be hit. Then, Florida must prepare for it between Monday and Tuesday. Once on earth, the hurricane may move north and along the coast to Virginia. At this point, it should remain hurricane for 24 hours before weakening and regaining its status as a tropical storm.
Its small size is decisive

Now categorized as a major hurricane, Dorian is considered small. Its tropical storm winds, that is to say those that blow the furthest from the eye, extend over a radius of 165 km and those of hurricane, around the eye, over 35 km. Its small size allows it to intensify quickly. At its peak, Dorian could become Category 4 by Saturday. At this time, its winds will exceed 220 km / h. It will also continue to expand. Its diameter could exceed 350 km, which would increase the risk for regions affected by the monster.

As it passes, Dorian is expected to dump more than 3,000 mm of rain causing significant flooding. Coastal areas are most at risk due to large storm surges. Add to this one of the most important high tide events of the year in Florida, as well as the effect of the winds.

Speaking of winds, the strongest of a hurricane is in the northeast quadrant. Here gusts of more than 150 km / h are to be expected. Many trees could be uprooted and multiple blackouts are to be monitored. Roads may be blocked or flooded, hence the importance of evacuating several regions.
Currently, more than 12,000 US Army soldiers are in Florida to support the citizens. In all and everywhere, more than 21 million people are on the alert. Where Dorian should land, 9 million Floridians can be affected.
