During these two summer months, SNCF registered a total of 26 million passengers, an increase of 7% compared to last year. This is what Guillaume Pepy, CEO of the company, told BFMTV on Wednesday.
This growth is much higher than expected by the SNCF, which expected an increase of 3 to 4%. Guillaume Pépy puts this positive balance on the account of the attractive offers put in place thanks to OuiGo. SNCF's low-cost offer alone registered 3.4 million passengers.
The train rather than the plane
But the environmental considerations of travelers are also taken into account. The plane is increasingly seen as a means of transport too polluting compared to the TGV. An awareness that is translated, in fact, by the preference given to the train.
"Between Paris and the Basque Country, we were challengers, we are no longer. And yet the journey by train lasts 4.20, "explains Guillaume Pépy. According to a study commissioned by the SNCF, many French admit today that they can not "defend personal choices of defense of the planet" while continuing to "exclude the choices that are necessary".
