Two days later, on July 15, the bodies of Chynna Deese, 24, and Lucas Fowler, 23, were found on the side of the road. They were shot dead. As part of its research, the Canadian police broadcast an excerpt from the images of the gas station presented in the video below.
Since then, the survey has gone from twists to turns. On Wednesday, July 24th, the same police dispatched reinforcements in a remote and marshy area of central Canada, near Hudson Bay, to track two young suspects on the run, accused of the unintentional murder of a man but also suspected from that of Chynna and Lucas.
The police are redoubling their efforts in this investigation, as the country is shocked by the death of these two young tourists from Australia and her from the United States. Canada is keen to prove that the region remains safe while last summer, it had never welcomed so many foreign visitors, with more than 21 million people.
Canada and its great outdoors have become a popular destination, especially for Americans. For the first time since 2015, the growth in the number of US tourists has exceeded that of arrivals from other countries.
For the French, Canada is now the second long-haul destination, just behind the United States. In 2018, 611,000 French travelers went there. That's 5% more than the previous year.
