<p style="margin-right:0in; margin-left:0in">If it is up to the NHL leadership, this collective agreement will expire, as scheduled, in 2021.

The NHL has officially informed the Players' Association (AJLNH) that it will not use the escape clause that would have allowed it to withdraw from the final year of the agreement between the two parties until the end of the season 2021-2022.

The ball is now in the hands of the AJLNH, which has until September 15 to claim the same right.

The main issue for players remains the amounts of their pay kept in trust. According to the current collective agreement, owners and players must share revenue related to hockey equally. If player salaries exceed 50 percent, a certain amount is held in trust to restore balance.

NHL players have lost up to 10 per cent of their pay in trust over the past seven seasons.

This portion of the players' salary is placed in a bank account during the season. Once the campaign is over, the total amount of revenue is calculated and if the league did not receive its 50 percent share, it receives money kept in trust to reach that percentage.

Olympics participation, the definition of hockey-related income, post-career health care, concerns about the replacement of veterans by young players for salary cap reasons and money are other players' concerns.
