It's a very trying time for Luis Enrique. The former coach of Spain has announced the death of his daughter Xana, aged nine, following a long battle against cancer. The former FC Barcelona midfielder left his post on Spain's national team in June because of his daughter's illness.
" Our daughter Xana died this afternoon at the age of 9 after struggling for five intense months against osteosarcoma The Spanish technician announced on his Twitter account on Thursday (August 29th).
Last June, Luis Enrique announced that he was leaving his position as coach of Spain for " family reason of force majeure ". The 49-year-old had resigned to stay with his daughter, who had bone cancer.
"We would like to thank all the warm showings we've received over the last few months, and we appreciate the discretion and understanding shown. We also wish to thank the staff of Sant Joan de Deu and Sant Pau hospitals for their dedication and treatment, the doctors, the nurses and all the volunteers. With a special mention for the hospice team of Sant Joan de Deu », wrote the former FC Barcelona.
" We will miss you very much, but we will think of you every day of our lives. You will be the star that guides our family Added the father in mourning.
After his announcement, the 49-year-old coach has received many messages of support, including from the world of football in the image of the president of FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu. "All our support and compassion goes to Luis Enrique, his wife and all his family during this particularly painful time"said Bartomeu in a tweet.
"The whole Barca family is affected by the loss of Xana. Our condolences and all our sympathy for the Martinez Cullell family », he added.

Enrique has won two Liga titles, three Copa del Rey titles, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup in his three seasons as Barcelona coach. As a player, he has been a three-time La Liga winner against Barça and Real Madrid, while representing his country at three World Cups.
