The hurricane could strengthen further before reaching the Florida coast early next week.
Dorian became a major Category 3 hurricane – out of the five on the Saffir-Simpson scale – with winds reaching nearly 185 km / h Friday, August 30th, National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced American. The hurricane is over the Atlantic Ocean some 1,000 kilometers east of the city of West Palm Beach, Florida, NHC said in its latest newsletter at 8:00 pm (Paris time) . It should strengthen further before reaching the coast of the state of Florida Monday or Tuesday. The NHC, located in Miami, provides indeed that Dorian passes in category 4 by the weekend.
The slow progress of the cyclone and its increasing intensity raise fears that many areas of Florida will be swept by heavy rains and high winds for a prolonged period. "It can be said with a high degree of certainty that this will be a major hurricane", Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at a news conference, calling on residents to prepare for a "Several days event". The state of emergency, already in effect in Florida, has been extended to twelve counties in neighboring Georgia.
