Giuseppe Conte in charge of forming a new government

The outgoing Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has been instructed to form a new coalition government, AFP reported Thursday on the basis of official sources.

Giuseppe Conte was received head-to-head Thursday morning in Rome by President Sergio Mattarella, the referee of political life in times of crisis, who was to give him a mandate to form a new government.

The 5 Stars Movement (antisystem) and the Democratic Party (center left) agreed Wednesday to form a government under the leadership of Giuseppe Conte, avoiding a priori the holding of new elections in the country.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella greeted Giuseppe Conte with a smile Thursday morning in his office at the Quirinal Palace.

According to the Italian parliamentary system, Giuseppe Conte will then in the coming days submit to the president a list of ministers and gain the confidence of both houses of parliament.
