Frenchman Luis world champion, Norwegian Blummenfelt wins final in Lausanne

French Vincent Luis, 27, captured his first World Short-Course Triathlon title after the 8th and final round of the men's World Series on Saturday in Lausanne, Switzerland.

This round is organized on the shores of Lake Geneva and serves as final. It was won by Norway's Kristian Blummenfelt, 27, in 1:50:46, 15 seconds ahead of Spanish title-taker Mario Mola and 30 seconds before another Spaniard Fernando Alarza.

Luis, winner of the Japanese round of Yokohama and very consistent throughout the season, finished in 5th place, enough to bring back to France an honor she had not known since Olivier Marceau in 2000.

On the Belgian side, Marten Van Riel finished 9th in Saturday's final in Lausanne, while Jelle Geens left the race in the 6th of 7 bike loops.

In the afternoon, Claire Michel and Valérie Barthelemy defend the colors of Belgium in the women's event.
