The No. 1 Belgian beat Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain, 69th in the third round, after 3 hours and 13 minutes of play: 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (11/9) and 7 -5.

Federer thus passes the 3rd round turn at the US Open for the 18th time in 19 participations. The Bâlois has 102 ATP victories, including 20 Grand Slam tournaments and 5 times the US Open.
