Canal + is preparing an alliance with Netflix

"Netflix? They are in my camp! " These words of Maxime Saada, the president of Canal +, to The gallery last November had surprised more than one observer. And for good reason, the American giant of the video by subscription is often presented as one of the main rivals and responsible for the problems of the French leader of the "pay TV". Yet, surprising as it may be, Maxime Saada did not joke. This Thursday, Le Figaro stated that his group was in the process of signing a distribution partnership with Netflix.

At Canal, "Netflix should be available as an additional option", says the daily, which evokes the possibility of "Coupled formulas, financially more advantageous for consumers". On the merits, with this partnership, Canal + obviously wants to position itself as a sort of portal for universal access to content, at a time when fans of sports, movies and series are forced to have several subscriptions.

A new distribution channel for Netflix

With this strategy, Canal + probably hopes to find colors. In France, the group faces a double competition: that of BeIN Sports, SFR (Altice) and soon that of Mediapro in the sport, and that of the platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, and soon of Disney + or AppleTV + in the video by subscription. For Netflix, this partnership could allow it to further expand its 5 million subscribers in France. With Canal +, the American giant would have a new distribution channel, which will be added to those, powerful, telecom operators Orange, Bouygues Telecom, SFR and Free.
