Athletics Canada unveiled on Friday the list of its 49 athletes competing at the World Championships from September 27 to October 6 in Doha, Qatar. Eleven of them are among the world's top 10 disciplines, including Aaron Brown, Andre De Grasse, Brandon McBride, Gabriela DeBues-Stafford and Alysha Newman.

Aaron Brown is the Canadian 100m and 200m champion. He is third in the world rankings in the 200m, thanks to two victories (Stockholm and Shanghai) and a third place (Doha) in the Diamond League. He ran once under the 20s, in 19.95, to register a 4th place in Doha.

Andre De Grasse, Brown's dolphin at the 100 and 200 Canadian Championships, is 8th and 5th in the world rankings respectively. He had his best time in the 200m, finishing first at Ostrava (19.91). In the 100m, he went under 10s (9.98) at the Canadian Championships in Montreal.

Brandon McBride is No. 3 in the world in the 800m, in which he has just scored a win in Paris and a third place in the finals of the Diamond League in Zurich.

Damian Warner (2nd in the world in the decathlon) and Mohammed Ahmed (6th in the 10,000m and also very comfortable in the 5000m) also have beautiful playing cards.

Gabriela DeBues-Stafford, 4th in the women's 1500m and 3rd in this event in Zurich, and Alysha Newman, 5th in pole vault and winner of the Diamond League in Paris, will be the female headliners of Canada in Qatar.

"We are going to face the best of the world," said Brown. We all realize how big competition is at this level and we want to take this opportunity to prove ourselves. "

Canada had not won any medals at the 2017 London World Championships. He had won six at the Rio Olympics a year earlier.

"We will be looking for better results this year, but there will be challenges," said Glenroy Gilbert, head coach of the Canadian team. In Doha, these challenges will be heat and jet lag. But I think we did well to mitigate the impact on our athletes. I expect our team to be well prepared and ready to perform well. "
