<p>The second day of boccia competition was action-packed on Friday with the end of the round robin and the start of the playoff phase. In the end, four Canadians reached the quarter-finals and two managed to qualify for the semi-finals.

Hanif Mawji, Marylou Martineau and Philippe Lord were unable to reach the next round at the end of the round robin.

Lord came close to winning, but was eliminated due to his differential following his 4-1 loss to Belen Ruiz. In this very tight match, Lord tried to counter Argentinian's investments with smashes to score points near the jack, but without success.

Four Canadian athletes advanced to the quarter-finals: Alison Levine (Montreal, Que.), Iulian Ciobanu (Montreal, Que.), Marco Dispaltro (Saint-Jerome, Que.) And Éric Bussière (Verchères, Que.).

Ciobanu made several risky but strategic shots to defeat Levine, her teammate and top seed in the BC4. Ciobanu's shots earned him three points in the second run, which took Levine out of the title race.

Meanwhile, Dispaltro took the win against Brazilian Ercileide Laurinda to join his team-mate Ciobanu in the semifinal.

For his part, Bussière could not qualify for the semi-finals, he who suffered a defeat of 7-0 against Colombian Jesus Romero.

Dispaltro and Ciobanu then clashed in the semifinal. Everything was played in the second run, while with four balls to play, Dispaltro has managed to exhaust all the balls of his opponent. He eventually won the match at 7-1.

Canada is assured of a silver medal with Dispaltro in the final. He will face the second seed of this tournament, the Colombian Euclides Grisales.

Ciobanu will play for the bronze medal against Duban Cely, also from Colombia. There will be two Colombians or two Canadians on the podium of the individual BC4 event.
