It remained to Steven Defour ten months of contract to Turf Moor, but the two parts were agreed to anticipate the end of their collaboration for "family reasonssaid Burnley in his release.
"His qualities and his key role during the first part of the 2017/2018 season, when he laid the foundations for a seventh place in the Premier League and a qualification for Europe", have been rented by his club.
Steven Defour trained in Mechelen had transited through Genk (2004-2006) where he had revealed himself after passing Standard (2006-2011). A first experience abroad led him to Porto from 2011 to 2014 before returning to Belgium, but to Anderlecht (2014-2016). He has been in Burnley since 2016. He has 52 capes in the national team (for 84 caps).
Steven Defour has not been spared from injury especially in recent months, but he said he was honored to have played for Burnley, who will always be a special club for him. "I would have liked to be able to give more to the club, the fans who were fantastic from the first day", he said on the site of his now old club.
"It has been really difficult in the last 18 months", added Steven Defour calf wounded in particular."Unfortunately, I had big injuries and tried to come back. It did not work out as I would have liked. There is a lot of frustration too and I really wanted to give the fans all their support. But things do not always go the way we want and I think going is the best solution for everyone. And for me, it's a good thing to come back to Belgium."
