As 5G gets ready, Arcep has to make sharing its frequencies fair. But his latest plan does not please everyone in Bouygues Telecom.
5G is becoming the hottest topic in the smartphone world. And for good reason: the network technology wants to be the source of new revolutions on the market.
However, its deployment is becoming more complicated, especially because of the struggles between Huawei and the US government. In France, operators are preparing to recover their frequencies, but Arcep must first define the rules for their sale.
Bouygues stands against the plans of Arcep
The last plan proposed has no more to Bouygues Telecom, as La Tribune shows. Arcep has indeed proposed a block of 40 to 60 MHz at a fixed price to each operator, then put the remaining frequencies auctioned in blocks of 10 MHz with a limit of 100 MHz per operator.
However, the deputy director of Bouygues Telecom disputes this proposal, which he finds " incomprehensible From the French regulator. Indeed, the firm is worried that such a plan favors companies with the largest capital, Orange and SFR, leaving Bouygues and Free with a network less rich and therefore less attractive.
What's more, Didier Casas argues that Arcep wanted to stem the virtual monopoly of Orange on professional networks. However, the 5G will be the nerve of the war B2B solutions of tomorrow (including the connected car), making such a plan might widen the gap again between operators according to him.
It seems very complicated for Arcep to put together a plan that is not immediately criticized by the operators.
