(Sherbrooke) A man is likely to face justice after leaving his 4-year-old daughter alone in his parked car on August 18 in downtown Sherbrooke.
The Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) reports that the man had abandoned his little girl to attend a licensed school in the evening.
It's a passer-by who saw the girl alone in the car. He immediately alerted the authorities.
The SPS says that when they arrived, the police found that the child was frightened, that her pajamas were soiled, and that she was hungry and thirsty.
Shortly after, the father, obviously intoxicated, left the establishment where he was and confessed to the agents that he was indeed the father of the little girl. The SPS reports that he seemed confused and did not seem to realize the seriousness of his negligence.
The individual was taken to the police station where he was interrogated, while the girl was entrusted to her mother. The Youth Protection Branch of Estrie was informed of the case.
The man was arrested before being able to resume his freedom. His fate is currently under review by the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP). He is at risk of criminal negligence or abandonment.
